Whole roasted chicken, potatoes, and onions cooked with indirect
heat under the Weber grill dome. Slow is the way to go.
170 degrees in the thighs and 160 for the breast and taters
and onions tender and ready. About an hour and a half. Magic.
Once all of that stuff is off the grill, throw the zucchini
halves directly over the coals and watch for about 5
minutes, with a turn halfway through. No mess in the
kitchen and minimum 3 days worth of dinners. Probably
$10.00 of product, but the flavor is priceless.
It has been said that "Roast Chicken always makes you feel good" and that is the truth! I will cook my chickens indirectly on the gas grill (YES Dave! the Weber is better) and it is a no miss good meal. My tip, Empire Kosher chicken, a little more chicken fat and less steroids, Oy Vey, good stuff.
ReplyDeleteIndirect on a gas grill is fine, it's just that you really go through the propane quickly. I usually save the gas grill for quick items like burgers, sausage, and chicken breasts. The Weber is used for whole chicken, pork loin, rib racks............
ReplyDelete.........when the item has time to absorb the flavors of the coals and wood chips. A good pile of Kingsford gives me 2-3 hours of consistent heat.
ReplyDeleteMy mouth is watering.
ReplyDelete... but three days worth of dinner in the Baydog house??
... was thinking you might have enough for a sammy the next day.
I love my gas grill but I am not going to compare it to the flavor a Weber Kettle charcoal grill can deliver. I had a Weber for years even replaced many of the parts and like an idiot bought a yuppie overly priced gas grill (which ended up being a big P.O.S.) and gave my Weber to by D.B. brother in law, who never used it and left it to rust. I bought a Kenmore gas grill for a fraction of the price I got my yuppie grill for and it is 10X better. BUT I need a WEBER. They are little more of a hassle but it is sooo worth it. So, Baydog (and everybody who's part of this blog) this is most likely not going to happen for me but you got to dig this: - http://www.weber.com/explore/grills/charcoal-series/ranchkettle
ReplyDeleteOhh Yeaaa!
